Beating the post holiday blues

I will post a little about the very unremarkable but totally enjoyable holiday soon but wanted to share today's look first.

I had packed a few scarves and gavroches for the holiday. Did I wear them? Nope, not even the shawl for cool evenings was worn. Shame on me!

Before the little gardener returns to school we had a final relaxing afternoon, enjoying the sunshine, our garden and making plans for a return visit. We both decided to glam it up a little, fairy wings for her and Cachemire Ancien for me.

I am very fond of this design but know very little about it. In fact I have two colourways but have to say that today's choice is my favourite; it's lesser sister may have to find a new home in due time.

Seemingly clashing colours (here rose indien/cuivre/parme that's pink/copper/violet to the English speaking world) are not colours that I would normally pair up.

Yet here, they blend and contrast in harmony and make this gavroche a very useful addition to the silk stash. The little gardener is as fascinated by the swirls and patterns depicted and whilst she is reminded of a kaleidoscope. I feel a connection with formal gardens and maybe box parterre in an Elizabethan knot garden, especially when looking at the centre of the scarf.

The outer border is a bright pink but it is a narrow border, so does not dominate the scarf. Wearing cries out for either black or shades of raspberry pink and a bit of lipstock was de rigeur today, too.

Hope your week is as bright as my day today!

  2. I confess you enabled me on this little gem: the pattern's paisley-ness does indeed lend an ancien air making it feel a quite traditional pattern.

I wear mine with all shades of grey (can't say that phrase as much as I used to!!!) as well as black and it never fails to lift the mood.

    1. So lovely to "see" you here, pussywillow, and you made me laugh out loud! Delighted to be twins with you, it is a gem indeed. I wonder if it was part of the men's collection? Shame that the booklets are so pared down now...

  3. Wow, Bienchen, you wear fuchsia pink in very chic way! And what lovery tops! Your connection between garden and paisley patterns is very interesting!
Ps. Since I saw Pierres d’Orient et d’Occident shawl on you, it had never been out of my mind. And I recently found your grail shawl. Now I’m happy to be shawl twin with you!

  4. Oh Iris, many congratulations on the Pierres! It is my absolute favourite colourway and I can't believe that you love it so much, too. I am looking forward to some action pictures, you have such fabulous style and taste.
