More September Flowers

I have finished planting up the borders at another garden, a project that started in summer.

All photos are from summer planted plants, with all the wet weather they have bedded in very well.

Rudbeckia fulgida var. Goldsturm: I am a huge fan of rudbeckias. Easy to grow, long flowering season, no problems with pests and diseases; I split a clump in my garden and instantly have spare plants, perfect.

Salvias are also incredibly long flowering. These are S. nemorosa 'Ostfriesland'. I use this variety a lot is it does not self seed much. In the background are lavenders as well, not in flower anymore as I am in the "cut them back in August" camp.

Penstemon 'Raven' is leaning a little, the foliage underneath is from hemerocallis. Fabulous dark purple nodding flowers and if deadheaded occasionally, there will be more. With a bit of feeding these will flower until first frosts. I cut back them mid April or so, when there is plenty new growth at the base.

  2. Gosh, yes the North really has been suffering. We have just been miserable.
