Orange Sun

I have been dodging the (much needed) showers for much of last week, hence the lack of pictures.

So when last week the sun came out after heavy rain, I happened to be working and had my camera in the car, I got to take this picture of Tulip 'Orange Sun'.

It is more red than orange, at least to my eye but you can definitively see an orange tinge to it. The sun was fierce and within minutes the droplets of rain visible on the outer petals had gone.

It is planted near some Iris in the hope that the emerging foliage of the iris will hide the tulip leaves once the turn yellow.

This picture was was taken two years ago, a few more tulips but the iris had only been planted the year before and was a bit less prominent.

Still a far cry from what the narrow border along the fence looked like soon after I took on the garden.

The rest of the small border by the front entrance to the rectory is rather lush and green now with colour to follow soon.

I am particularly looking forward to the delphiniums (grown from seed) which I planted last year. The tulips next to them are old stalwarts, 'Maureen' (white) and 'Queen of the Night' (dark purple).
